By Sam StevensonShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberTwo widely sold Walmart products have been recalled following urgent safety warnings from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Why It Matters
Product recalls of the Ozark Trail Tabletop 1-Burner Butane Camping Stove and Outdoor Master children’s and youth helmets come amid increasing scrutiny of consumer product safety nationwide, directly affecting thousands of American families.
The camping stoves have reportedly caused injuries due to explosions and fires, while the helmets do not meet mandatory safety standards, exposing children to the risk of serious head injury or death in a crash.
Newsweek contacted Walmart for comment via email.
What To Know
According to the CPSC, Walmart has recalled about 201,000 Ozark Trail Tabletop 1-Burner Butane Camping Stoves (model number BG2247A1) due to serious burn and fire hazards, as the stoves can explode or catch fire.
Manufactured by China Window Industry Co., Ltd., of Taipei, Taiwan, these stoves were sold at Walmart stores nationwide and online at Walmart.com from March 2023 to October 2025, with prices from $8 to $45.
Walmart acted after receiving 26 reports of the stoves exploding or catching fire, including 16 reports of second-degree burns.
...The CPSC also announced the recall of approximately 24,300 Outdoor Master-branded children’s and youth helmets, imported by Maysun Products, Inc., of Chino, California.
Sold online at Amazon.com and Walmart.com from June 2024 through February 2025 for $20 to $32, the helmets fail to comply with mandatory safety standards for bicycle helmets, specifically lacking positional stability and proper head protection coverage.
While no injuries have been reported, the CPSC warns these violations pose a risk of serious injury or death.
The recalled helmets include:
- Model OM-TD BIKE: Blue with dinosaur print, for children’s size small (head circumference 48–52 cm), marked “OM-TD BIKE” and “05/2024” inside; “Outdoor Master” on the back.
- Model OM-KSKB: Deep green, with black padding, yellow straps, a black buckle and a black plastic knob at the back of the helmet for youth small size (head circumference 46–52 cm), marked “OM-KSKB” and “11/2022” inside; “Outdoor Master” on the front and back.
...What People Are Saying
The CPSC: “Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled stoves and return the product to any Walmart retail store for a full refund.
“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmets and contact Outdoor Master for instructions on how to register for a full refund.”
Walmart did not immediately respond to Newsweek's request for comment, but the company’s recall page says: “Walmart is committed to providing only safe and compliant products to our customers. When there is a safety issue, we urge customers to follow all CPSC recommendations and take advantage of available remedies.”
What Happens Next
Customers are instructed to stop using the stoves immediately and return the product to any Walmart retail store for a full refund. More information and contact details can be found on Walmart’s recall page or by calling Walmart Customer Service at 800-925-6278, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. CT.
Owners of the helmet products should contact Outdoor Master for instructions to receive a full refund, either via email at [email protected] or via the company's recall website.
