Adolf Hitler won a seat in his constituency in northern Namibia.

No, not that Adolf Hitler. This is Adolf Hitler Uunona, a 59-year-old politician who won his seat yet again in a landslide election.

Despite his namesake, Hitler is a very popular politician in his small town with 5,000 residents, working on anti-apartheid efforts.

He previously said he wasn’t aware of his name’s origins, adding: ‘It does not mean I have Adolf Hitler’s character or resemble that of Adolf Hitler of Germany.’

After his recent win, he said he wants to be referred to by his other surname, Uunona.

‘My name is not Adolf Hitler. I am Adolf Uunona. In the past, I have been called Adolf Hitler, and they have tried to associate me with someone I don’t even know,’ he told BILD.

‘My wife calls me Adolf.’

Though he goes by the name Adolf Uunona daily, he says it’s too late to change his full legal name.

He said his father had named him after the Nazi leader, but that ‘he probably didn’t understand what Adolf Hitler stood for’.

Mr Uunona said he saw it ‘as a totally normal name’ as a child but only later realised the horrors committed by his namesake as he grew up.

Germanic names are common in Namibia, which was part of a German territory called German South West Africa from 1884 to 1915.

He’s worked to represent Ompundja, Namibia, since 2004, as a member of the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO).

He’s worked in grassroots campaigns and rallied against apartheid, which is still an issue in many parts of Namibia.

His party, SWAPO, is described as ‘socialism with Namibian characteristics’.

As for the real German dictator, he hit the headlines earlier this month when scientists revealed Hitler had a genetic disorder that can result in a micro-penis.

DNA analysis of blood taken from the sofa where Adolf Hitler died suggests he may have suffered from a genetic disorder that prevents puberty, lowers testosterone and sex drive.

By analysing a piece of Hitler’s DNA, researchers found that Hitler had Kallmann Syndrome, which is revealed in an upcoming Channel 4 documentary, ‘Hitler’s DNA: Blueprint Of A Dictator’.
