By Melissa Fleur AfsharShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberA Georgia man’s quiet act of kindness has captured the hearts of viewers online, after he was filmed preparing dinner for his wife in near-darkness—wearing a headlamp so the lights would not worsen her migraine.
The viral moment was shared on TikTok by Madison Newcomb on November 15. In the 15-second video, her husband, Chris Newcomb, 28, is seen in a dimly lit kitchen, wearing an apron and a flashlight strapped to his head as he gathers ingredients and cooks. An overlaid text on the video read: "I have a terrible migraine, and I look over to my husband cooking me dinner with a headlamp on." Newcomb captioned the clip: "I just love him so much."
The video has since been viewed more than 1.1 million times and liked by over 264,000 users, leaving many viewers on TikTok amused, touched and inspired by what they called a simple but deeply thoughtful gesture.
"I was laying down on the couch with an awful migraine and looked over at my husband who was cooking in the dark with a headlamp on," Newcomb told Newsweek. "It took me a second, but then I realized why he was doing it, so he did not have to turn on the lights and make my headache worse."
...The couple, who married in May, live in Dallas, Georgia, where they are working to open a State Farm agency. Newcomb, 26, said she began posting on TikTok as a hobby several months ago, and had not expected the attention this short video received.
"I decided to take a quick little video, having no idea it would receive the response that it has," she said.
While the viral post captured just one moment, Newcomb said the gesture was emblematic of Chris’s everyday approach to their relationship.
"As kind and thoughtful as that gesture was, Chris truly does small acts like that every single day that let me know how much he loves me," she said. "If you know Chris in real life, you know just how thoughtful and intentional he is with the people he cares about."
The comments on TikTok have been filled with praise for Chris and humor.
"So what was the prayer you have used exactly so I can write it down word by word," one viewer posted.
Though Chris is not on TikTok himself, Newcomb said he has become aware of the reaction.
"I am so glad over a million people got to see a glimpse of what my life married to Chris looks like," she said. "I truly feel like the luckiest girl in the world every day."
