By Cole SullivanShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberThe Colorado Buffaloes hung around for a while on Saturday night during their senior night in Boulder, but the Arizona State Sun Devils ultimately proved too much, outscoring Colorado 21–0 in the fourth quarter to close out a 42–17 win.
The loss drops the Buffaloes to 3–8 as they head into their regular-season finale next week against Kansas State, which will wrap up Deion Sanders’ third season leading the program.
While Colorado has shown major improvement since Sanders arrived in 2023, this year was a step back — and after the loss, Sanders made it clear that major changes are coming.
“It’s not one thing, because if I say one thing you guys are going to attack the other things that I didn’t say and I’m not going to give you that,” Sanders said. “I’m gonna say it’s multiple things that will need to change, and it will. As a matter of fact, it’s already in progress. We could throw stones at everybody. I always say you start with me.”

Sanders and Colorado have had to replace a lot from last season. The Buffaloes lost much of their offense, most notably star quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, and haven’t been able to replicate that production, even with an improved recruiting class.
Sanders has now compiled a 16–20 record during his time in Boulder and will send off another senior class after this week’s matchup against Kansas State.
“It’s tough letting them go out like that,” Sanders said. “You want to send them out with a win… we couldn’t get it done.”
