Three-time All-Star Edwin Díaz is the biggest name hurler who has been linked to the Blue Jays so far for the bullpen. The Blue Jays reportedly met with Díaz's representatives earlier in the offseason. But he's not the only All-Star reliever who has been floated as a fit for Toronto. MLB.com's Keegan Matheson said Ryan Helsley is someone to keep in mind and noted that the Blue Jays called the St. Louis Cardinals about him ahead of the trade deadline.
..."Edwin Díaz is the top reliever on the market and will command a large contract -- something the Blue Jays haven’t handed out often to relievers," Matheson wrote. "Devin Williams and Robert Suarez are also available. Keep Ryan Helsley’s name in mind. The Blue Jays had talks with the Cardinals about Helsley at the last trade deadline, and that interest hasn’t disappeared."
Helsley is a two-time All-Star and won the 2024 Trevor Hoffman National League Reliever of the Year Award. In 2025, Helsley had a 4.50 ERA in 58 appearances with the Cardinals and New York Mets.
The righty had a 3.00 ERA in 36 appearances with St. Louis before he was traded and struggled down the stretch. In comparison, he had a 2.04 ERA in 65 outings in 2024. After struggling down the stretch with the Mets, Helsley surely will be less expensive than someone like Díaz, but he has all of the upside in the world.
