Sanders led the Buffaloes to a 4-8 finish in his first season before a 9-4 campaign in 2024 that saw Colorado in the thick of the College Football Playoff race at points during the season. Just a season later, though, the Buffaloes not only won't be competing for a playoff spot, but aren't even close to being bowl eligible.
To make matter worse for Sanders and company, a top assistant coach is leaving the program to take over a storied HBCU program.

Colorado running backs coach Marshall Faulk is expected to be named the next head coach at Southern University, an HBCU school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, which fired coach Terrence Graves last month following a 1-6 start.
Faulk, a New Orleans native, recently revealed why he entered the college football coaching space for the first time after being asked to do so in the past.

"I've been offered jobs," Faulk said. "If it wasn't for Coach Prime, I would not even try this. This wasn't even on my list of things to do in the least way. I put crazy hours in when I played, like player and coach's hours in, to become the student of the game that I was. And when I walked away from it, I couldn't believe how much time I invested into the game."
Now he's poised to take over a legacy-filled program as head coach.
