Ever watched The Godfather and found yourself craving a slice of rich, cheesy lasagne?

Or started pining for your favourite childhood comfort food after glimpsing a cartoon over your kids’ shoulders?

Millions of Brits are taking our food straight from the telly to the table, with 63 per cent of us now creating recipes inspired by our favourite movies and shows, according to research by HelloFresh UK and Paramount+.

In fact, more than half (55%) of us now rely on series and films for meal ideas, with social media, magazines, and newspapers coming close behind.

To celebrate Britain’s love of home entertainment (both on screen and in the kitchen!) HelloFresh and Paramount+ have come together to create ‘One Menu. A Mountain of Entertainment’ – a range of dishes inspired by your favourite movies and shows.

From Captain Picard’s Roasted Chicken and Red Wine, Apple & Sage Gravy inspired by Star Trek, and the Angela’s Family Dinner Crispy Chicken Tacos inspired by Landman, to the On Wednesdays We Wear Pink Risotto from Mean Girls – it’s the perfect way to make cosy nights in even better.

But you’ll need to be quick! To qualify for three months of Paramount+, you must receive three HelloFresh recipe boxes by 19th December, which means you have until 28th November to order your first box!*

Where will you get your inspo?

You won’t be surprised to hear some genres inspire Brits’ food choices more than others, with travel influencing the highest number of people (32%), followed by drama and comedy.

Other limited-edition Paramount+ dishes in the range include

Mobland – Hearty Irish Style Slow Cooked Beef Hot Pot

Yellowstone – Rip’s Ranch Steak Burger

Tulsa King- Mamma’s Spaghetti and Beef Meatballs

Landman – Texas BBQ Style Crispy Breaded Chicken Tacos

The Godfather – Classic Beef and Pork Lasagne

You’ll also find a choice of extras and desserts including New York Style Cheesecake, inspired by Tulsa King; and Tear ‘n’ Share Garlic Dough Balls Tortoise Shell, a riff on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Interestingly, there were some generational divides, with Gen Z viewers taking the most culinary inspiration from comedies and cartoons, while 25- to 34-year-olds pointed to reality TV.

With family favourites like SpongeBob SquarePants still popular, the research revealed that more than half (56%) of us reach for nostalgic comfort food after watching childhood shows – proof that TV doesn’t just inspire what we cook, it stirs emotion too.

Bringing characters to life

Unforgettable characters are at the heart of any great film or TV series. But if you could pluck one from the screen and plonk them on your dinner table, who would it be?

Asked the same question, just under a fifth (16%) of Brits went for SpongeBob SquarePants – beating other icons like Michael Corleone and Eric Cartman.

Learning more about our favourite characters as a film or series unfolds is one of the most thrilling aspects of home entertainment. By eating dishes inspired by them, fans can feel more connected than ever.

‘It’s fascinating to uncover this connection between what we eat and what we watch as a nation, with entertainment such as TV shows and films clearly sparking our curiosity in the kitchen,’ said Mimi Morley Senior Recipe Development Manager at HelloFresh UK.

‘Food has always been about storytelling, and every recipe carries a sense of place, mood, or moment and TV helps bring those emotions to life.’

Anna Priest, Head of Paramount+ UK & Ireland, adds: ‘This is a fun and creative way to connect with people – pairing the stories we love with the meals we share.’
