But Williams struggled for the Yankees and hit free agency at the end of the year. At this point, the righty could be headed for a new team after being demoted from the closer role in the Bronx.
Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox recently predicted the star righty would leave the Yankees and sign a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers in free agency.
..."It would seem that both the Dodgers and Williams agree with Reynolds, at least to some degree," Knox wrote. "The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya reported earlier this month that there was mutual interest between the two parties. Unless Williams receives a can't-refuse offer elsewhere, it could be hard to turn down a chance to play with the champs."
The Dodgers' bullpen was the team's biggest weakness last year. They're likely going to look to add a lot of talent to the backend of that bullpen, and Williams could be the perfect fit.
He's coming off a down year, but that doesn't mean he's a bad pitcher. The righty was one of the best closers in baseball for half a decade before his step back last year. Signing with the Dodgers could be the perfect move for his career. Los Angeles could use him as a setup man, which would take a lot of the pressure off him next year.
Either way, the fit makes sense.
