By Hollie Silverman and Gabe WhisnantShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberParamount Pictures has agreed to release a long-awaited “Rush Hour 4” after a push from President Donald Trump, according to reporting by Deadline and Variety.
According to Deadline, the studio will distribute the Brett Ratner–directed sequel on behalf of Warner Bros. for a double-digit-percent feel. Ratner, who settled a 2018 defamation lawsuit after a sexual-assault accusation, recently directed a Melania Trump documentary set for release later this month.
Several studios, including Warner Bros.’ own New Line, had reportedly passed on the project despite the franchise’s global box-office success, with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker expected to return. President Trump personally urged the studio to revive the franchise, Semafor first reported on Sunday.
Paramount’s owner, David Ellison, is currently bidding for Warner Bros. Discovery.
